Video teleconference and also known as video conference, is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to interact via two-way video and audio transmissions simultaneously. It is also called video collaboration and is a type of group ware. It differs from videophone in that it is designed to serve a conference rather than individuals.
Most video conferencing uses telecommunications of audio and video to bring people at different sites together in a meeting. It is as simple as a conversation between two people in private offices or involve several sites with more than one person in large rooms at different sites. It can be used to share documents and computer-displayed information, besides the audio and visual transmission of people.
The technology used in a video conferencing system is digital compression of audio and video streams in real time. The hardware or software that performs compression and the resulting digital stream which are then transmitted through a digital network of some kind.
